If you like Pinot noir with your steak, more power to you.
If you’re not very experienced with wine (not trying to sound snobby or anything) most people prefer a bolder flavored wine to pair with the fatty strong flavors of a steak. So a Cab, Malbec… or my favorite: Amarone. There’s no “right” way, and having a lighter wine like Pinot noir with a steak might fit your taste preference the best. Just trying to be helpful.
