Bought his bottle on a trip through Cotes du Rhone, in 2023.
We tasted several wines at the winery, some of the were way too "natural", giving unpleasant notes and some defects, in my opinion.
But not this one, this was a juicy and pleasant fruitbomb, so we bought a bottle.
One and half years later, I opened it being a bit worried about its shape (as is a natural wine) but it's in a perfect shape!
Still lots of juiciness, very soft tannins, freshness, maybe even more polished than back then. It's an easy drink that asks you for the next sip, red wine that could be enjoyed alone or as I did, along a dish of pasta.
I wish all the natural wine was like this.
Cheers!

I heard a lovely anecdote (true or not I’m not certain) about this wine that involves Matthieu Barrèt and another rival maker. The rival and him were having a heated discussion when’re the rival called him a tacky little bear, and Barrèt called him a dickhead and challenged him to make a great wine.

Upon completion of the first vintage Barrèt said “I’ve finished and as you recommended I’ve put a tacky little bear on my bottle, your turn dickhead”

He has beautiful wines, but omg, so overpriced.

Even without the wine, your garden is stunning.

  4. I had this recently and was also a bit worried before opening. Heard that some of the bottles from that producer can be a bit unstable and mousy. Wasn’t the case for me and had a similar experience. Really fruit forward juicy and fresh Syrah. I think some bad natural wine bottles can ruin consumers perspectives on natural wine but bottles like this should really restore the faith into what it’s all about.

I’ve had great experiences with Domaine du Coulet, I first picked up a bottle because my wife saw the label and was insistent we buy it. Happy we did!

I’ve had a couple great bottles from Barret, especially the Cornas, but equally as many that have so much VA that they were undrinkable
