Thought this would be the best place to post about this, I’m very new to the grilling world and my dad passed this on to me, I remember our family possibly using this when I was around 7 years old and after that we just stopped. Been sitting in garage collecting dust, moved it to my house and want to start using it if I still can. I have no clue or idea of how to go about using this or fixing any help would be amazing 😅

My dad told me it’s from Japan around the 1960s he got it while he was on tour in the Navy. Don’t know if that helps but yeah.

Is the metal cap still with it? It’s important for air regulation and temp control.

Kamado style of grills have been around forever. You can easily find newer parts that should fit what you have. The designs haven’t changed very much over the years. Because they don’t need to.

  3. Is it a number 5? (Roughly 18” grate)… if so, this is the vent cap I bought for my #5 hibachi pot.

That looks to be an “Imperial Kamado” brand.

This is very cool, some people would restore this thing and baby it to perfection. Be very careful with the clay pot insert while cleaning it, it’s easy to crack it if dropped. Never use any lighting fluids to start the fire as those chemicals will penetrate the clay and your food will smell like it. Watch some YouTube video about using Komodo grill. I have Primo brand, very happy with it, I can grill on it and do low and slow cooks.

Before going too far. I would light a small fire in it just to see how it handles heat after such a long time without use.
All going well you can then spend to your heart’s content on all the but and bobs you might want.

    Good luck
