We had 19 people from r/wine (inc. +1's) each bring a bottle from a vintage older than their birth year. 24 wines were opened, including two duds and backup bottles, and amazingly, all the wines made it around the table without running out.

2nd Place (Tie): 1970 Chateau Montrose & 1983 E. Guigal Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde de Guigal
3rd Place: 1978 Chateau Leoville-Las Cases
Honorable Mention: 1971 Marchesi Villadoria Barolo Riserva Speciale DOCG ("Pirate Barolo!")

Some of my favorites:
* 1970 Château Montrose – tons of life left in this bottle. Classic, fully mature, Médoc character
* 1971 Marchesi Villadoria Barolo Riserva Speciale DOCG (“Pirate Barolo!”) – The outside closure of this bottle smelled like it was dipped in literal gasoline. Still, after chipping through decades-old stiff wax and pulling the soaked cork, the wine was in beautiful shape. Black cherry, truffle, violets, saddle leather.
* 1979 Château de Fargues (Sauternes) – Marshmallow, lemon curd, apricots, acacia flowers, fresh almond
