Built some 2.5’x6’ and 2.5’x2.5’ planter boxes out of cedar, and installed some shade cloth this weekend. Not sure how long it will last in my intense sun but as long as the plants are happy, I’m happy.

Send some of that sun my way! My north facing ass is struggling 😭

I feel like I need this in Louisiana at times. The sun can roast some plants in the summer months

I’ve gotten two years out of my cheap (random chinese brand off amazon) stuff without any sign of degradation so far; am planning on using it again this year.
Sunlight here isn’t quite on the Death Ray-level that you guys get over there, but it’s pretty damn bright nonetheless.

LOL, you are putting up shades to protect your plants, here I am in the north, pruning trees and bushes to get my plants as much sun as possible..

What are the measurements of your shades

Yeah i’m thinking about doing this. I have one of those foldable canopies that a storm destroyed the tarp of and i was thinking of getting shade cloth and using it over some heat tolerant lettuce i want to try growing in the summer. but, not sure its worth it lol.
O-really
I need to get some soon! I’m in 10b and it’s already frying my cucumber leaves but the tomatoes are loving it. What percent did you get?

For others considering this, I would suggest you consider using something like burlap or jute – it performs similarly but won’t drop microplastics as it degrades in the sun. You can find it at fabric stores

nice set up!

I have also to much sun at my rooftop garden. And it’s north of Germany

I need this. Did you post materials and parts?

Here you are putting nice shade for your garden.
While I may have planted onions yesterday it is now snowing 1ft plus already and like 15 hours more to go.
