Careful…..you’ll never be able to go back to store bought lettuce again!

  2. I didn’t do lettuce for years, thinking it would be a one and done thing, and also not realizing how easy it is to get only what you need harvested.

Making a salad with all stuff from your own garden is a great feeling.

Tomatoes get all the attention, but the difference between homegrown lettuce and store bought lettuce is just as big as with tomatoes!

Plant your lettuce early and often! I do some individual heads and some leaf lettuce mixes that I plant thick and harvest cut and come again. Once you figure out what you like and what grows well in your area, it gets even better.

Ive harvested off lettuce plants for an entire season. Just trimming the outer leaves over and over. Leave several in the center and the plant will just keep producing leaves,

I’m growing lettuce for the first time this year and am obsessed- maybe almost as much as tomatoes now. So rewarding – we get 2-3 full dinner size salads for 2 people a week, and that’s either only 11 plants.

I have some store bought romaine to struggle through and can’t wait to eat the first big heads of homer lettuce in the garden waiting for me. Homer lettuce is so underrated.

Home grown also lasts a lot longer in the refrigerator.

Well done. Looks worlds better than the store!

  10. It’s awesome to have salad all growing season.

Romaines are great, if you want to add something softer and with texture try buttercrunch.

its soft, like velvet and melts in your mouth. such a contrast to the crispy romaine
