About 15 years ago, I used to bake a lot. I was in the military and would bring stuff in for my unit. I'm not a professional by any means, but it made me happy. I love feeding people.
Since then, I graduated nursing school, worked, traveled for work for 4 years, both before and during covid, moved, and went back to a staff job, all while getting the kids thru highschool (one more to go), and supporting my husband through his transition out of the military.
I recently accepted how miserable and burnt out I am, so I gave notice at my job. Made these Irish Drop cupcakes with my 18 year old last night, the first time I've baked in a really long time. I think I'm going to be doing more of it.
These are a Guinness stout chocolate cake with an Irish whiskey ganache filling and Bailey's Irish cream frosting. My husband is going to bring them to his class tonight, so I hope they go over well.

Im jealous. I wanna quit my job and do something I love . I wish I could figure out what that is .
Your cupcakes look really nice! I hope it works out and you can make it into a business.
I feel like I want to say congrats! But also, sorry you got the burn out. I applaud you for recognizing it and taking action to better yourself.
Your cupcakes look good!
WOW those cupcakes look fabulous and the recipe is seriously business!
Thank you for all the service you have given us and wife & Mom stars as well.
It sounds like you’re returning to your home base of baking and still… giving.
Wow! I’m the complete opposite!
I was a pastry chef for years and decided it wasn’t fulfilling me on an emotional level, so now I’m in nursing school working toward my RN! 😄
Don’t get me wrong, I still *love* baking. It’s becoming more enjoyable again since it’s now my hobby instead of my profession.
That sounds delicious! Do you mind sharing a recipe?
Yep did the same and I’m happy again..busy but happy and happy at work. Good luck! Do what you love and love what you do..life’s too short💕
Guinness chocolate cake is incredible. I usually go for the [Nigella Lawson](https://www.nigella.com/recipes/chocolate-guinness-cake) one bit I absolutely LOVE the sound of your whiskey ganache and baileys Irish cream frosting. Amazing! Good luck on your renewed baking journey!

YUMZ 💙
Just save one for me! Thk
I worked in someone else’s commercial bakery for about a year and after some stupid drama, I quit and started my own baking business. Did that for a while, then was offered a full-time job giving a local coffee chain’s defunct baking department a facelift. In all that time, I never did any baking for myself. Because I did it for work all day long, the last thing I wanted to do on my days off was bake more.
As soon as I left the coffee chain, I went in a completely different direction work wise, but the want and need to bake for myself came back. It was so satisfying to be doing something I enjoyed but without the pressure of “it needs to be perfect because people are paying for it.”
I’m glad your spark is back and I hope you get in a lot of great, delicious baking!
I’ve been practicing my baking skills too since I’m struggling to find a job after going back to school and getting my bachelors degree at 30 🥹 it really does make me happy during these trying times
I admire your courage to admit to yourself you need a break and do something you love.
These cupcakes sound divine, I wish you’ll share a lot of photos over the upcoming days of your journey back to baking.
The cupcakes look so beautiful! More power to you 💪
