Classic double with bacon and a Fresno melt. Don’t even get me started on those onion rings and fries.

Yeah, I know, the Chili Mac isn’t a burger, but damn it it’s delicious in its own right.

  1. maybe its just our local ones, but i have never been very impressed with steak and shake the few times i have gone, from what i recall, its really expensive, and was not really worth the premium

i live in Hampton roads btw, all but one have closed as far as i can see as well in our area

The Steak ‘n Shake in my city is absolutely deplorable.

  3. InYourBackend

As far as I am aware, they are one of the first smash burgers I ever had. Delicious burgers. Chili spaghetti is amazing too!

  4. Ancient-Chinglish

the 100% beef tallow claim is a crock of shit – they’re still par-fried in vegetable oil and flash frozen before being delivered to the store

  5. Bonoboian99

I assumed it was because they are seen as a fast food place and an actuak restruant so their food must be subpar.

Ya know I’ve had em in several states randomly across about a decade. Somehow they all tasted different. Some were smashed some just like burnt McDonald’s tasting. Idk I don’t think they’re consistent at all.

Yours looks good but I think it’s luck of the draw.

  7. RevolTobor

The Shake Shack near me USED to be good, but they went down in quality in recent years.

Maybe other locations are better, but mine isn’t as good as it used to be.

Edit – I meant Steak and Shake, I’m a dumbass.

  8. HowzaBowdat

They’ve gone fully up Trump’s ass with their marketing, anti-DEI rhetoric and courting the alt-right. That’s enough for me to avoid them.

  9. CrappleGroan

I went through Steak ‘n Shake management training in my mid 20’s. Quit and never went back on my graduation day.

  10. Papadump88

Central IL they used to be great and affordable but are neither anymore

  11. iNeedScissorsSixty7

They closed almost all of them in the St. Louis area and the one remaining within city limits is gross.

  12. wow, I only just thought of it so I looked it up and there’s none in my state. Not one location anywhere near me. The closest one is Vegas.

  13. browmftht

because the only one i know of closed before i ever went 🙁

  14. WoodenEmployment5563

Too expensive. Double the price of a double double.

  15. I’ve always thought they were good but I rarely come across them

  16. East_Sound_2998

They all closed in my area like 10 years ago

  17. J_Kelly11

There is only one left in my town and surprised it hasn’t closed yet. There used to be 2, other one closed and torn down and gonna be a chik fil a

  18. Smartmuscles

Looks great. The tallow fries are a W for sure. 👍🏽

As for why… I’ve never heard of that chain tbh.

  19. chris00ws6

Because mine closed and I only got to eat it once…just never did for some reason…and I never knew the 7×7 was a thing and now I’m sad and miss it because it closed right after one of the best meals of my life.

  20. Full_Savage

I’ve never even heard of this place, didn’t even know it existed.

  21. CorianderSix

The Shake was good a LONG time ago. Now it’s consistently trash.

  22. Strange-Title-6337

Mb because wtf is it? Should I list like every tiny croatian burger place here and say, hey americans, why no love for torpedo burger?

  23. Sebastian_Ticklenips

so sick of seeing the same corporate chains in this sub. Are they paid to spam their burgers here? Even now there Is Culver’s, Carls Jr, and Freddy’s on the front page. Im shocked In n Out isnt there. It reduces the quality of the subreddit and makes me feel like these posters are just paid advertising.

They should make really make it local or homemade only or just band chain fastfood.

  24. BeefSkillet19

They used to be good. Table service, quality food. Now they make you order from a kiosk. They’re leaning hard into conservative politics instead of serving up a good product. It’s embarrassing really. I was in Georgia last month for work and was stoked to have it because all of the chains local to me have closed. The food was bad, and I could tell the person working the front would have preferred to be interfacing with me instead of the kiosk. I regret giving them my business. I should’ve eaten at a mom and pop place or even wafflehouse a second time instead. Give em a few years, they’ll get replaced by something better.

  25. DemonidroiD0666

Because they took away the one by where I live.

  26. emueller5251

There’s none around. I don’t think there are any at all in my region. Where I grew up there was like one in the area. It was in the middle of a strip mall and like a 15-20 minute drive for me to get there.

  27. notguiltybrewing

Steak and Shake’s quality is all over the place. The one near me used to be decent before covid, now you never know if it’s going to be good or awful. There’s a Five Guys and a Culver’s within a mile or less. I rarely go to Steak and Shake anymore for these reasons.
