I thought I would finally give this brand a try- I'm a bay area native and love E-40's music. I wanted to find his strawberry flavor but it wasn't there, and this was the only one that wasn't vanilla based so I grabbed it. I almost never buy ice cream with vanilla bases- there's just not enough going on for me. Onto the review:
I liked the green color when I opened the pint. I saw some minor freezer burn on top, which is totally fine. The issue was that even when I got past the top layer, the texture of the ice cream was still very gritty. To be fair, this absolutely may have been because it got warm then froze again during distribution. Who knows.
The mint taste was smooth, and nice. I actually really enjoyed that part. It wasn't a loud, in-your-face mint, it was subtle but definitely not lost. The chocolate chips though? They didn't exist. I attached a photo of the largest one I could find. There was nothing big enough to even chew. It really looked like there had been a chocolate chip there, but it magically disappeared, leaving only a tiny residue of what once was. I didn't like that part, and unfortunately I can't blame that on distribution.
This ice cream wasn't bad at all, but there's definitely other brands of mint chocolate chip I would choose over this one. I probably should have gotten one of his vanilla based flavors, but oh well. I will definitely keep listening to his music.
