Took me a while to figure out that word — then remembered 6th-grade anatomy, the alveoli, those little bubbles that make up most of the lungs … so *alveo* is “bubble,” of course. And how like English to name a bubble meter an “alveograph.” German would call it a Blasenmessgerät, “bubble measuring machine.”
