Hi everyone I’m looking to get into sous vide, would this be a good starter kit on Facebook marketplace place for the price? Owner says it’s been used less than 10 times but can never tell

  1. Just my 2¢, I don’t really like buying second hand cooking appliances most of the time, just weirds out. And, the fancier immersion circulators, especially ones that come with that plastic jug, are overpriced. Get the Anova Mini or whatever it’s called, it’s less than $100, and just stick it in a pot of water. You can also get a decent vacuum sealer brand new for less than $50

  2. Agree with other posts, when I first got into SV bought an expensive circulator—thing crapped out within a year. The Anova basic unit picked up after that has been going strong for 4-5 years. You don’t need a fancy water container—check ur local Goodwill for stockpots or use what you’ve got long as can fill above the min water line and have room for the item wanna cook. And No, most applications (not all) can use immersion method if don’t already have a vac seal. My advice, spend on the Vac Seal not the circulator.
Don’t need a fancy contour cut lid—pick up a roll commercial grade plastic wrap…restaurant grade roll might be $20-$30 from Amz. Works great for longer cooks and roll is big enough will last you 5 years…I know from experience! Haha
Most of all, have fun with it. Try new things and enjoy the adventure!!

That’s not a terrible deal, but I’d probably try to talk them down to $100. There’s nothing wrong with buying any of that used, and a dedicated container is nice for some people.

I’d start with an instant pot. It’s an ok sous vide once you calibrate it. But it also does several other things pretty well and is decently cheap.

That’s a good deal. I don’t know why everyone is “hating” on it. Just open the circulator before buying to see how dirty it is. If it is too dirty don’t buy it. If it is not dirty it is a good deal.

Ps. I don’t know how he got his pricing but it is way off. Still it is a good deal.
