How do you safely store an onion if you don’t use it all? I usually just wrap mine with a paper towel and put it in a fridge but I heard it collects bacteria.

I just put it into the veggie drawer by itself like most of my veggies, it dries a little bit on the outside but if it gets too dry you can just snip off the wrinkles bits and then use the rest. It’s pretty hardy and will even just sprout on its own in the fridge too

I just put mine in a small Tupperware. I use so many onions on a day to day basis I never even think about whether it’s collecting bacteria

A lot of times just dicing it and popping it in the freezer. Onions ready on the side if needed.

You guys got leftover onions?

I never thought much about it I wrap mine in cling wrap and into the fridge it goes. Probably better ways to do it

“don’t use it all” I don’t understand the question, premise ridiculous.

It’s best if you can vacuum seal the other half if it’s worth keeping..
Remove it from the peel, wash it, store it in fridge in a container. You don’t need to do anything special. Look at restaurants like Subway or places that have a salad bar. They prep those onions in advance by washing, chopping, then putting in a container in a walk in cooler.

Wrap the leftover onion in tin foil to keep the smell from spreading around your fridge.
If you buy coffee in foil bags, keep the empty foil bag to store your leftover onion.

I’ve got an onion keeper thing that has a stretchy membrane which blocks oxygen. But I never really have it in there very long

I cut it up and freeze them with freezer bags.

Tupperware or small bowl. Cut side down in just a bit of water will reduce the smell, but they hardly last long enough for me to think of germs and is often cooked into a dish anyhow. Trying to reduce my plastic consumption, or I’d wrap it up and toss her in the crisper.

I usually dice or slice the leftover onion since I already have the knife and cutting board out. I’m rarely going to be eating the onion whole next time. Then, storage in a glass container or in a pinch, a zipper seal bag.
Why isn’t your onion unwrapped? I remove all the skin prior to cutting. But if I have some leftover I will cut it into whichever shape I will use the most and throw it in a Tupperware for the next day or two

I’ll chop an onion and put it into a container if I’m not using it all so during the week for small meals I have chopped onion ready to go
