The tins: Ramon Peña Ventresca, La Narval mussels in Galician sauce, King Oscar anchovies, Riga Gold sardines with lemon (thanks u/ciiuffd for the sardines and mussels!)

The pairings: homemade bread, toasted, kettle chips, kimchi, homemade pickled red onion, sour cream, fresh tomatoes, and a cold one!

Thoughts: I was holding out to try ventresca until I could eat it exactly the way RTG suggested: on top of fresh tomatoes, drizzled with the oil from the can. I did that and sprinkled on some flaky sea salt. It was really something else! I think this would be great as a mock caprese, with the ventresca replacing the mozzarella but adding balsamic, capers and basil. I’d definitely get this can again!

You know I love anchovies, they didn’t disappoint! A great bite is bread, a smear of cream, half an anchovy filet, and some pickled red onion for brightness.

The sardines were delightful, very soft but actually lemony! I was disappointed with other lemon flavored tins (ahem, Fishwife), but this is truly lemony! I’d get this one again!

The mussels were delicious! Mussels have been hit or miss for me, as sometimes they’re grainy or bland. These were smooth and flavorful, with a hint of oceany brine. These are my new favorite mussels!

Big thanks again to u/ciiuffd for your great picks! I may never have gotten these for myself and they were delightful!

Dang. That’s a lot of food. I can barely eat that much when I’m high

I gotta try those Riga Golds! I love lemony sardines, and most are not lemony enough for me.
