Bought this pork belly on Saturday and now there’s blue spots… not sure if it’s safe to eat and scared to find out. Any thoughts..?

Probably faded ink from labeling but interested to get others’ take on this.

Looks frozen still. Let it thaw. If it is discolored at all or stinky pitch it. Otherwise you can just cut that part off, it is possibly just food grade ink.

But if you don’t feel safe just pitch it. Nothing wrong with that

was it frozen? It looks like the bottom of it is frozen.

Smell it. If it smells funky, throw it out.

Touch it and see if it feels sticky. Stickiness or sliminess indicates spoilage.

If the blue spots weren’t so spread out, i’d like to say it was ink, but this points more to mold.

    Try asking on

This is important! Were the spots there and you just didn’t notice them, or was that previously un-spotted and then spots appeared?

When in doubt, throw it out.

If you feel you have to ask, don’t eat it.

I’m asian. I’ll just cut off the weird part and still eat it.

It’s frozen so let wait until it’s defrosted.

Yes. This is actually a rare process with certain cheeses called decarbonication which is when the oxygen level is lower than the fridges temperature. A lot of modern fridges used kinetic energy to save power, which often results in certain cheeses blue. In harsher conditions they will turn green. I completely made this up by the way.
