    conjecture: carrot got cut around ground level last autumn and threw multiple leaf buds that created axillary carrot “bulblets” around the original root.

    Umbelliferous plants like carrots (celery, fennel etc) have a tendency to do this

    I wouldnt try eating that carrot, it will be hard and won’t be tasty. This carrot was left in the grown too long.

    Cut off the bottom, throw it into the compost pile, and separate and plant the three tops. Free carrots.
