    conjecture: carrot got cut around ground level last autumn and threw multiple leaf buds that created axillary carrot “bulblets” around the original root.

    Umbelliferous plants like carrots (celery, fennel etc) have a tendency to do this

    I wouldnt try eating that carrot, it will be hard and won’t be tasty. This carrot was left in the grown too long.
