I'm so proud to have had my first successful beetroot harvest yesterday! I've tried growing them before but they were tiny. These ones grew so quick and the leaves were huge and roots a decent size. I planted them as seedlings 8 weeks ago and they shot up. I still have a few more in the bed that are growing much more slowly.

I made a lot of changes since last trying to grow them that I think made a big difference. This time, I planted them in a raised bed with loose soil instead of directly in the ground. I filled the bed halfway with sticks, logs and organic matter and the rest with bagged garden soil. I also set up an irrigation system so they were watered more consistently. They were so delicious roasted!!

    Wow! High five to you!
What a beautiful plant they are. The stems are just gorgeous.

    How was dinner? Looked delish!

  2. Those stems and greens look amazing! I actually enjoy eating them as much as I do the actual beets.

Wow! I’m jealous. Never been successful w beets. Planted some before frost date and they just haven’t turned into much.
