If you have the divide and concur system I would highly recommend getting a split conveggtor and a half moon drip pan for after that initial sear. I love fire and smoke as much as the next guy but the burger is probably not getting much charcoal/smoke flavor as much as it could.

Turn the grate 90 degrees next time. Will be easier to get after them with the angle you are coming at the burgers with the spatula.

Just imagine that egg cracking, spilling fire all over the patio and not a chance to save it…. Peak recklessness right here.

Any safety concerns with this setup?

If you’re going to grill with the top open like that you can close the lower door to a minimum. The reason it is flaring up like that is because when you open the dome, the airflow skyrockets plus you add grease into the mix and essentially you have a grease fire.
I’ve found that if you close your bottom vent, you’ll still get some flare ups from the grease dripping but it’s much more manageable.
Although to be fair, that is exactly how I like to sear my pichana roasts…. Except I do this out in my yard, not on a tiny balcony 🤣
