Tuscan Soup #cooking #foodie #The Sugar Shack With Mrs. Munson

Okay, y’all. So, we are in the middle of rearranging the kitchen, but I still have to cook because I got people coming over. My my sister-in-law and brother-in-law are coming. So, in this pot, let me get you a little closer so you can see. Like I said, excuse the mess. We’re trying to reorganize so we got some more room in here. In that pot, I got some bacon cooking. It’s pretty much done. Now to that we’re going to add some meat. I’ve got two lbs of ground beef. Add that. And we’re going to cook it in the same grease that the bacon is cooking in. I hate cooking bacon. really should have probably taken that bacon out, but I figured. [Music] [Music] All right, here’s another. We are making an Italian soup. Cooking our meat down in the in the bacon grease. Now to 2 lbs of ground meat. I’m sorry if y’all having trouble hearing me. We’re also going to add 2 lbs of Italian sausage. Now, if you want to, you can use just Italian sausage. I don’t love Italian sausage, so we’re gonna use half and half. John, what are you working on? [Music] Well, you just work on online, but if you’re not busy, you can do comments. You can hold it. I can No, I need you to continue doing what you’re doing. All right. [Music] You do? Okay, let’s add some salt and pepper. I’m going to be generous with this pepper here and add a little salt. Okay. To that we are going to I didn’t even chop my onion yet. I need to chop an onion and keep this going here. [Music] Sorry. What was that? What? They’re on the way. Oh, okay. Let’s move this pot right here. Caroline, can you come here? I know that y’all are going to say, “Why didn’t you get everything prepared before?” Well, cuz I’m trying to do 200 things at once. Can you get me the garlic out, please? Just the next part of it. What is that meal? Where did that baby come from? All right, let’s get this onion ch. And we need to do it fairly quickly. So, well, are dirty up something else, but I have this. My kitchen is already hot mess everywhere. Sure does make that a whole lot easier. I don’t know what day it is. I think it’s like the 27th or 28th. The garbage comes in the morning. Let’s throw this onion in here to cook. I wonder if it’s not going to come on Saturday again because of the holiday. Those onions in there. I think I melt. Yeah, look what I did. Melted my thing. Oh well, there’s going to meat thing here. Shut this up. Now, don’t forget we have a pound of cooked bacon in here. We’ve got the bacon grease. We’ve got two lbs of Italian sausage, two pounds of ground meat. Now, you can half that if you want to cuz you don’t probably aren’t cooking for Let’s see. How many am I cooking for? 7 8 9 10 11 at least 11 people. I would like to keep that. Is it clean? Yes. Okay, those onions are cooking down pretty good. So, let’s add our [Music] garlic. Now, this dish I’m going to be pretty generous with this garlic. at least three heaping uh tablespoons, maybe four. All right, you could use less if you’re not a garlic person. Now, once this is all cooked down, our meat is cooked, our onions are translucent, we’re going to drain this and start our soup. All right, we’re making an Italian soup, Miss Lynette. Hey, Miss Debbie. Or maybe it’s I don’t know. I guess it’s Italian. My friend told me how to make this a while back and um it’s a good one. Okay, this meat probably needs to cook a little longer. It’s probably not 100% done, but it’s going to cook inside the soup. So, what we’re going to do, I’ll let it go a little bit longer. Yeah, it’s a cold. It’s been cold, so it’s a good soup kind of night or week. Especially got if you guys live up in that northeast. Oh, my New York girls, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, you you chickies are freezing over there. Literally so sad. We’ll have to think of a good catchy name for this one. I don’t know what to call it. When I post this recipe, I’m not going to post these proportions because you got I mean like you can always double the recipe. So, I’m going to cut it in half and post it that way. What’s up, Bonnie? Our little bonny girl was buzzing. Okay, that is cooking quite nicely. Getting nice and brown. Come here. Come on. I found it. Okay. Now, I’m going to take this pot over to the colander and drain it. But I’m not going to drain it long cuz I do want to keep some of that bacon grease for the flavor. But you want most of it gone. Oh, glass is problem. Okay, let’s put that right back in that pot. Okay. And back over here we go. Now to that we’re going to add some chicken broth. [Music] Oh, let me get here and grab it. Oh god, it’s so far back there. Here we go. Okay, give that a stir. We’re going to need more obviously. So, we’re going to add some water cuz I think I’m out of chicken broth. How pretty that is. Definitely need more. You’re going to want to cover this completely cuz you’re going to add some potatoes in here. All right, let’s bring that to a boil. Let’s see. Michael. Michael. Michael. Baby, what are y’all doing? Uh, I’m showing him more stuff. I want donuts. Okay. Well, can you come help me? What you need? I need to peel these potatoes real quick so I can chop them up and put them in there. Oh, that was good. You peel them. There’s another peeler over there. You want this one? Here, take this. Watch your fingers. Don’t cut yourself. away from the fingers. This one sucks. Mine is so good. And it hurts when you hit your fingers. Don’t make what I told you about that. Here you get Yeah, I got Friday, Michael. Here, yeah, I need all this whole bag. A whole bag of Yeah, buddy. Since we don’t want to burn my mat, I’m just cut these over here. You just want to cut that off right there. Okay. Get the camera, baby, so I can see your pretty face. Hey, it’s pointed at the dog on soup. Everybody’s like, “Oh my god, we want to see Kelly’s pretty face.” I don’t know what anybody said that. Let’s see what they are saying. Uh, five of my kids. Oh, this would be a good one for you to make, girl. So, we’re just waiting for this to come to a boil. Let me crank it up a little bit more. We got a whole bag, a 5B bag of potatoes over here. Of course, we don’t have to use them all, but So, like I said, I’m feeding about 11 people at least this family. You thought what? Oh, they were having dinner with lunch with poppers. Is he watching? Well, I will say this, Wes watches a good bit. I don’t know if it’s him or the kids. Sometimes the kids use their phones. I don’t think it’s finished cuz she usually comes. You’re going to get to meet Ally. We made her shrimp last night. Somebody asked me how old she was. I don’t know. I think she’s about 12. 13. You sure she’s 13? I can barely remember my own age. Ally, don’t be mad at me. She don’t watch. She watched last night. or so Melissa said, sorry guys. You going to clean up all them potato peels or nothing? Mhm. I can hear now. Why aren’t you more organized? Working on it, girl. I actually forgot about the potatoes. I would have had these peeled. You still any balling over there for love. Y’all finishing that laundry room? [Music] There is no stopping point once it’s done. Is that down? [Music] Huh? Uh, I don’t know. What time is it? How much? What time? Yeah, it might be All right. Not quite boiling yet, but almost there. Let’s start dropping these potatoes in here. We’re not eating this anytime really soon. So, my potato chunks are kind of big because I’m going to let it kind of cook. And so, for the regular recipe, if you’re not making a big pot like this, you want to do about four or five potatoes. Here we go. Look at them getting in there. And I peeled them, quartered them. Some of them bigger than others. That’s all right. All right. All right, let’s add some seasoning. We’re going to add, if I can find it, some basil, a little bit of basil. Basil is one of my favorite seasonings, so I’m kind of generous with that. M. Smells so good. And also another one of my favorites is red pepper flakes. Now, also I’m going to be generous with this one, but you can put whatever you want in it or however much, but we’re going to be kind of generous. All right. Now, we really need this to boil so my potatoes cook. And I got it cranked up as high as it’ll go. Smells good. We’re making an Italian soup. Miss Donna, come on. Boil. You know how it is when you’re waiting on your pot to boil. It just takes forever. See all my helpers jetted on me. Put a lid on it. Yeah, but then you can’t see it. Too spicy. You don’t have to put that much if you don’t want. Cold in Pennsylvania. 27. Oh, girl, that is cold. Jimmy Dean is doing good. He was just inside a little while ago trying to knock down my Christmas tree. That will probably come down tonight or tomorrow. When the kids were little, I used to leave it up till after New Year’s, but I don’t do that anymore. I just jumped on. Sorry, I was late. Italian soup sounds good. It is good, girl. Come on. Cut. We’ll see. Where are my pot holders? That middle burner gets the most uh I don’t know BTUs or something. And it’s supposed to be the um the one that gets the hottest and the fastest. The recipe is going to be on mrsmonson.com. Here we go. We’re getting some shaking going on. We got so far we got what’s all in it. So far we have now I’m making a big pot so you guys don’t have to make it this big. But I got 2 lbs of ground beef, two lbs of Italian sausage. Now oh well first you you brown your uh bacon. Okay. And then in that bacon grease, you cook your um Italian sausage and ground meat. If you don’t want to use ground meat in this recipe, you do not have to. You can use just Italian sausage. Um or you could use ground pork if you want. Whatever y’all want. Um I thought Italian meant noodles, not potatoes. I don’t think so. I don’t think they put noodles on everything. I could be wrong. We could change the name of it if y’all don’t if it’s not Italian. You Italian girls, I know. So, I just I I can I find Italian sausage can be overpowering. So, I did half and half. I did half Italian sausage and half hamburg hamburger. So, you cook that down in your bacon grease and you drain it pretty good. Okay. And then after you drain it, you’re going to well, you had to add all your onions and stuff before you drain it. so they would get translucent. And then you drain it, put it back in there. You put your chicken broth in there. We added some water. And then um you add your potatoes and let those boil for a minute. The next step, we’re going to add some spinach and kale. I didn’t use the hot sausage because I got kids coming. I wasn’t sure. They’re not little kids, but um I wasn’t sure if it would be too spicy, but you can use hot sausage if you [Music] want. Now we’re getting some boiling. It’s good. Let’s just stir the bottom. Make sure nothing’s sticking. All right. While that’s boiling for a few minutes, I’m going to go ahead and start getting my greens washed. I thought you were helping me. I I was So, your pig’s more important than your wife. Well, I got to give him a treat cuz that’s one of my wood. He’s had four or five today. He has. He has. I gave him some. Did you give him that um that celery I had last week for him safe? Uh I gave him some. He loves his celery, huh? He does love celery. He loves Caroline. Caroline loves his celery, too. Let me go. Michael got um one of those tape measures last night, you know, that you measure your waist with and he measured Jimmy Dean. Jimmy Dean is 44 inches around. Can you believe that? They don’t call them pigs for nothing, huh? Oh, that smells so good. I need to find my tail. Michael, listen to me. Listen to me again. I need help in here. I’m coming. And there’s no one here. Where is Caroline? I need that kale that I bought. You boarded today. Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. Don’t ask her. All right, so I found some fresh parsley. Just throw that in there. My kitchen is all like we got stuff all out of the cabinets cuz we’re rearranging everything or trying to. And I can’t find nothing right now. more parsley cuz I got it. I don’t want it to go bad. Might as well use it. Where’s that kale that I bought this morning? It looks like spinach, but it’s not right there. Watch that jar. All right, I’m going to go ahead and put this spinach in here and let this start. Actually, before we do that, let’s add in our heavy whipping cream. Now, because this is such a big pot, I’m going to add about two cups. Hey, you want to turn the AC on? No, I do not. Look at that. I think we need a little bit more. about a half a cup more. So that’s about two cups of heavy whipping cream we added to this. But for a regular size pot, you just need one cup. All right. Now, we’re eventually going to cut this on low and let it go slow and long. Now we’re adding in our spinach. I’m doing a whole container of spinach here. Oh, lost one. One got away. Debbie said no critter. Dang it, that critter. We keep forgetting to put them out, Michael. Well, today the kitchen is in like complete disarray. All right, let me wash the kale now. Now, if you don’t like kale, you don’t have to put it in there. Bless him. You can do You don’t want him to wash this outside, Michael? He can’t. The water’s cold. Let that get in there and get nice and welted. You know, spinach when it cooks down, it cooks down to hardly nothing. What? I love you guys, but I have to say this is the most boring video I’ve seen on your live. Watching a pot come to bowl isn’t entertaining. I know. I’m sorry, but that’s just I mean I got to show you how to do it. I can’t go to the next step till it does its thing. Look how fast that wheels down. I think she was doing that. We weren’t even on camera. We were boiling over there. There was no real talking going on. Well, I mean, are you making something from Olive Garden? I don’t know. What are you making? Uh, Italian soup. Italian. Somebody said, “Are you making the Tuscana sausage soup from Olive Garden?” I don’t know. I never had that. Does it have sausage in it? It does. There might be some variation of it. Hands it. Are you redoing your kitchen or just organizing? Just reorganizing it. I need to redo it, but I’m not going to because when the kids graduate, we’re selling this house move. just don’t know where to. Okay, so that was kale and we added spinach. Oh, that’s a lot of kale. If somebody was to repaint your cabinets, what color would you want? I don’t know. Not white. I mean, I think the white is pretty, but it I don’t know. I’m not real good at picking out colors. I usually consult my friend Tanya. She’s good at picking out colors. Susan said, “Did you talk to Terry?” I did talk to her today. She’s doing good. They have electricity, but their internet went out. I’m going to hold off on adding this kale cuz it looks like we got a bunch in there. Chris said, “Did you get a bunch of organizing bins?” No, I just have cabinets that we um were using for other things and now I need them. So, we have to find a different spot for them. Well, Elisa Lissa La Lisa Turner Uhhuh. said this is a good live. You were showing everything step by step. Well, it’s just so long. I know. I try not to make them this long, but you know, you got it. It just has a lot of step. I’m going to be making some uh bread, some like school lunch rolls. That one I’m going to do pre-recorded because it is a lot of waiting. Leanne said, “What made that red pot turn white?” I don’t know. I think Caroline put it in the dishwasher. It’s a like um That’s old, too. It is old. It’s cast iron, but it’s got that What is it called? The coating. Um ceramic coating. Yeah. And I think she put it in the dishwasher and it just did that pot still works. It just ain’t pretty. A driving van in Buffalo since Friday. Really? But I saw on the news this morning, I think they’re going to open up grocery stores and stuff tomorrow. Susan said my kitchen needs more cabinets to have new storage. I girl, I know. I hate this kitchen. Well, I don’t hate it. It’s just I don’t have enough storage. So, I think we’re going to take a crap from you. Yes. Thank you. Thank you. All right. So, we’re just going to let this cook down. This is essentially all you do. Okay. You might say porcelain. Yeah, I think it is porcelain. Hope not. That’s what my toilet’s made out of. Well, that’s what it is. And I won’t get rid of them. Not this one, but my blue one was my grandfather’s. So, as ugly as it gets, we’ll just keep it using. Do you have a cold? A little not a cold. No, we’ve been dusting today and cleaning out things. So, the um little spring cleaning since it feels like spring today. Yeah, cuz we’re stuck inside and we’ve got to get this kitchen more organized before I pull my hair out. So, um I don’t know, just you know, just stuff you do at your house. Like Melissa and them said they’re on their way. She just sent a picture of my grandparents grave. Your grandparents wave? Oh, her dad’s I was like, “What?” His Michael’s other grandmother. Can I tell them what they decided to do? Yeah. Okay. I I do not like this, but they decided to donate, you know, we live in Louisiana, and um they lived in Slidel, which is kind of close to New Orleans, and they donated their bodies to science at two lane. Okay, I add the rest of this kale here. Diane said, “Purge all those cabinets. Paint and refresh. It will change things drastically.” Okay. So, one reason why we’re not painting, I’m going to tell you why, is because when we bought this house, the people before us painted these cabinets, but they put um latex paint over oil base, so it’s kind of like peeling off. So now for us to paint them, we would have to like sand them down to the wood. I just don’t know if I want to do all that for a house that I’m moving out of in a couple years. You want to do it? No. Okay. You can’t do it. And that’s the other thing. He can’t do stuff like that. And I think that job might be too much for me. And I don’t and I do not want to spend the money on that right now. We’re about to have two in college. We don’t The economy is going crazy. Cost of living is skyrocketing. My income is going down and his ain’t changing. So that’s that. But I would like to just All right, this is pretty much it. We’re going to turn this down to a simmer. We’re going to put the lid on it and we’re going to let it cook down until those potatoes are nice and tender and all those flavors marry up. Now, I’m sorry this was a long one and kind of boring cuz I didn’t have people read my comments, but it is a good soup. So, you just started. I was busy. Mhm. So, but give this one a try. It’s really good. And when we eat it a little bit later, we’ll go live and show it to you. And you can tell me if it’s this the same one they have at Olive Garden. We haven’t eat at Olive Garden in years and years. So, supposed to be 69 on Thursday. Yeah, it’s going to be in the 70s here on Thursday. Good one, Donna. Yes. Miss Barbara said the taxes in Louisiana are crazy. She lives here, too. Yeah, they are. It’s a um it’s a Italian soup. Maybe um when Wes and Melissa get here, they can help me rename it because I don’t know what to call it. It’s really good. My kettle. Is that my pot? I don’t know what that means. I think she means my pot. Thank you. That is a uh KitchenAid roaster. And I I tried to go online and find you guys one, but I don’t think they make them anymore. All right. So, Miss Diana, we made an Italian soup. We’re going to be back in a little bit. Oo, 72 in Tucson. What temperature is it today? I don’t know, but the sweater is about to kill me. I know. I’m That’s hot outside. Look at the weather channel. 60°. Yeah, she said taxes are crazy high. in um California. I bet girl. Okay, so I’m going to get off of here and we’ll be back a little bit later. I’m just going to let this sit here and simmer its little heart out until dinner. You guys remind me of the Connors on Roseanne. Always happy in the kitchen. Oh, I don’t know. I guess that’s a compliment. We do love that show. You always say we’re like them. I know, but it has a different feel when somebody else says it. That’s funny. Hi, Miss Linda from Australia. Okay, I’m going to get off of here. Thank you. These are uh glasses that I wear when I work. Ham and potato soup. That sounds delicious. Hey, Cheryl. Okay, I’m going to get off of here and uh let this simmer and we’ll be back a little bit later. Hopefully my kitchen will be a little more put back together. We’ll see. Have a good day.
