Since September I've been part of a burger club that's trying a bunch of different burgers across NYC. I created a pretty rudimentary rating system so that I could determine which places packed the biggest punch in a somewhat objective style lol

For burger lovers, thought this could be a cool resource 🙂

I haven't hit all places on the list yet so the jury isn't out yet!

Some places are definitely missing from the list, like Minetta Tavern which I've never tried. If I were to do a post-season, which places should I try?

How I did the scoring system: added up a bunch of attributes 1-10 like flavor, size, ambience of restaurant, etc and then subtracted greasiness. Bang per buck is total points divided by the list price.

Pretty crazy how no one has mentioned 4 Charles yet. IMO they have the best cheeseburger I’ve ever tried

  6. morosehuman

Cozy Royale, Sailor, The snail, Gramercy Tavern

  7. Wouldn’t it be better if the original cost and qualitative scores were broken out separately rather than solely displaying a derived metric? the bang for buck metric could be skewed by a bogo app deal at a nicer fast food restaurant for example

    Gotham Burger Social Club

It’s my favorite in the city for under $20, by far

Need to try the Lords burger ASAP. Probably the best burger I’ve ever had. Wasn’t expecting it

    Burger Joint
    Minetta
    Rolo’s
    Donovan’s
4 Charles, I guess. Good Luck with the reservation.

  12. Haven’t seen BK Jani mentioned – it’s a Pakistani spot, they put mint chutney on the burger and it’s amazing. Really spicy fyi, pretty sure you can pick the spice level though

Cozy Royale is missed on this list. It’s better than Rolos burger by far and they have 3 different burgers on the menu. A 30 day dry aged burger, a smash burger and a regular burger.

    Hamburger America

    George Motz is a legend!

    Dram Shop in park slope

    Swoonys in Cobble Hill

This chart is confusing because the price isn’t listed, so it’s hard to understand how the burgers actually rate against each other.

  17. if its bang for your buck I would say:
    – happy hour at Cozy Royale
    – Jubilee Market
    – BK Jani

I don’t really understand how people routinely miss the Raouls burger.

Nobody Told Me (UWS or Dumbo). A little on the untraditional side but very good nonetheless.

Corner Bar at 9 Orchard in LES is also pretty good

I’d give extra points to any burger that you do not have to dislocate your jaw to fit in your mouth.

Manhatta has a great burger, it’s on the lunch menu in the dining room and available at the bar all day.

The Nines has the most insane burger I’ve ever had. My friend and I bit into it at the same time and looked at each other like…holy crap.

Also apparently Red Hook Tavern has an amazing burger, according to my friends husband who’s a chef
