I thought I might as well buy and ask questions later 🤣

  1. No. They will have a lower germination rate, but anything you grow will be just fine.

  2. HealthWealthFoodie

Just be prepared that some or all of them might not sprout. If they sprout, they will be fine.

when were they packed? i had 15 year old parsley seeds come up last year so you never know.

  4. Older spinach seeds have a tendency to grow little pink Christina Aguilera monsters instead of spinach. So…ya know…watch out for that 😜

  5. No. You can always sample a few on a wet paper towel. Keep it damp and viable seeds should sprout within a few days of when the packages says they will. Toss tehe ones that don’t.

If they don’t germinate you have wasted a week or so waiting for them to come up. Then you buy new seed and it may be another week till germination. Now you’re two or three weeks behind getting started. Buy good seed.

Someone may have used crspr on them to genetically modify them and then resell them to get unwitting individuals to grow and then feed them to the population with the purpose of…. Umm… never mind…

You don’t have a couple of dollars to spend on new seed packets?

  9. I’m still using seeds that I bought up to 9 years ago, just this season I’ve had difficulty getting some of the older ones to germinate. I do the damp paper towel technique to confirm germination before I sow them.

I store them where it’s dark and cool.

The beans should come up mostly fine, the lettuce will be a more reduced germination rate. They keep 2-6 years. I don’t think spinach seed keeps long.

Unfortunately you won’t know if they are what they say they are. I’d never pay for something like that. Free…shure…why not. But pay for? Nuh uh.

People trying to sell seeds have done a marvelous job of convincing buyers that seeds need to be thrown out and repurchased every few years – try not to fall for it! Old seeds might not germinate at as high a rate but that’s the only issue and even that is not necessarily true. I have 4 year old tomato seeds that germinated just as well as newly bought seed this year. Seeds are tougher than we give them credit for.

Sounds like you got a good bargain – congrats!

Do you have unlimited space? Yes

Does it bother you if something fails? NO

    Then use them.

The stores will put an expiration date, but I wouldn’t throw them away ! To see if they will germinate, put some seeds on the paper towel , moisten them with the paper towel, date and name the seed , then put in on the plastic baggy bag , so you can see if the seeds will germinate! I have a 3-4 yrs old seeds that I didn’t know if will germinate and I did the baggy method and They all germinated, this method saves my soil
