The California State Fair Commercial Wine competition evaluated 1,587 wines, representing 309 of California’s top wine brands, according to a recent news release. The competition, which originated in 1854, evaluates wines made with fruit grown in California’s 11 growing regions. The competition emphasizes growing regions, of which Temecula is located in Region G of the South Coast Appellations.
A total of 39 judges, overseen by Chief Judge Mark Chandler, reviewed all the wines to identify the winners. The full list of California State Fair 2025 Commercial Wine Competition winners was shared on the California State Fair website.

The 2024 Estate Reserve Verdelho by Las Positas Vineyards in Livermore won Best of Show: White Wine. According to Las Positas Vineyards General Manager and Partner Brent Amos, the same wine also received Best of Show White Wine at the Alameda County Best of the Bay Competition.
“Winning Best of Show at the CA State Fair is truly an honor. We are passionate about the wines we produce, and this Verdelho is my favorite so far,” Amos told Patch in an email. “Las Positas is the only vineyard growing Verdelho in Livermore, though I hope that others will plant this amazing varietal.”
