Land lord asked if I wanted this otherwise they were going to throw it away. I’ve been wanting to pick up a cheap bbq so figured I’d take a whack at getting it up and cooking.
There’s no brand markings that I can personally spot on it so it may not be BGE grill, but I figured it still a green Kamado style so parts and restoration would be the same.
Any ideas on the brand and any recommendations for parts or upgrades?

Looks like a green egg fossil. Worth restoring if you have the time and money. Would also be a cool conversation piece.

  2. It’s possible that it is a very early Big Green Egg. I would reach out to them to see if they can verify it for you and give you suggestions for restoring. The early models where class, not ceramic, so there may be things to consider when using it.

  3. I visited the sole factory BGE store in Norcross, GA in person. They are super excited about vintage kamados, even those that aren’t BGE. They even have a museum of kamado grills throughout the years of varying brands. My guess is that you could probably find someone there who might be able to identify it.

Could be imperial kamado. I rebuilt one a decade ago with all large bge parts. My friend still uses it regularly (below 450 degrees)

  5. Almost exactly like my “Noritaki” from the Viet Nam war era. Soldiers on leave in Japan shipped them back when they ate bbq from local vendors.
