After dinner last night, I convinced my wife to go to Walmart with me to check the meat section. My Walmart has a pretty good selection and I have been surprised with the quality of their meat. They discount their “best by xx/xx” meat in the morning and evenings when it gets close to that date.

We must have gotten there right after the evening discount and picked up a hell of a HAUL! I’ve never seen prime rib roasts on sale, think I’m going to smoke one for Memorial Day cause why not? Their tomahawks are really good and I reverse sear/smoke them. Found some fish too, going to give it a shot for cheap.

TLDR: Timed the Walmart evening discount perfectly, found meat and fish on sale, freezer is now full.

Nice haul, share the cooks when you get to them

Enjoy your low quality chemically enhanced meat

  3. That’s what I do too! I go Walmart at 9pm and they usually start marking down meat that’s gonna code soon.

Damn! Save almost $140!! Gonna adjust my timing like you did.

I don’t always buy meat at Walmart but I always cruise past looking for the yellow stickers!

  6. Tilapia is delicious! But yeah, compared to steak, not so much.

Awesome haul. We are contemplating a chest freezer to start taking advantage of deals like this. And local farm meats also.

  8. Can you share what kind of knife magnet board that is?

  9. Those whole roasts! Couldn’t get a better deal! I live in a pretty rural area. Like, the closest Costco is over an hour’s drive. So, unfortunately, I do 90% of my grocery shopping at Wally World and have for the last ten+ years. The meat section has come a long way in Walmart. I love finding a good deal on a fat steak when I do my weekly walkthrough.

The price on that ahi is insane. Maybe give it the ol’ smell test.

My Walmart must suck, I usually don’t see anything good at all, usually I find my best buys at like 9 or 10 am at food lion, those ribeyes look amazing though.

I almost never buy meat from Wally World, or any chain grocery. The quality is not good. If you have a local farm store or a CoOp you will find the meat is much better. If it’s all I can get well I will bite the bullet; but if there are options I opt for quality.

Keep low expectations on the fish. Haven’t had good luck with Walmarts Salmon at all
