Aftermath of the Amoureuses/Montrachet lunch/dinner.
This was a very long but amazing event; over 7 hours there were 35 bottles opened. Overall takeaways were that Montrachet is amazing with age but it’s fairly fraught, as many well-stored bottles didn’t make it. Some highlights were the 1993 Lafon, 2014 Lafon, 2017 Lafon and 2019 Drouhin. The power and elegance of Montrachet is hard for any other vineyard to match.
The Amoureuses tasting was also very interesting; we didn’t have quite as many aged bottles, but there were a lot of fantastic wines. Roumier stood at the top of the pyramid, but I was quite surprised how well the Bertheaus stood up to Mugnier. The Drouhin wines didn’t have quite as good a showing as I’ve seen in the past.
The food was superb and very well paired. I don’t have pictures of all the courses, but have included a selection of them.

Anyone else get a bittersweet reaction to seeing this amazing lineup of food and wine? Yes… pure jealousy.

Basic question: the Montrachet’s are all chardonnay and the Amoureuses are all Pinot Noir? I think you said the Montrachet/Chardonnays had more age related fails? I would expect that I suppose. I don’t personally don’t see the need to age fine Chardonnay very long.
Damn, would be amazing to get to know people who organise such events.
