Maybe they locked it to prevent anyone who doesn’t have the same opinions as the mods from commenting on it?

I saw that and was wondering as well.

Yeah I don’t get it. 100 posts a week about ramps and chives. Would it be so horrible to discuss protecting our employees and coworkers from being deported without due process?

Can we please talk about how to protect these people.

If Trumpism has seeped into r/KitchenConfidential, Anthony Bourdain would be soooo fucking disappointed
Tejon_Melero
Anytime people talk about workers rights in a meaningful way on a mainstream subreddit there is pushback.
There are a lot of topics this forum should be open to given the namesake.
Fickle-Molasses-903
Op, I saw that, too. I was going to comment on that specific post, but the mods locked it.
zigaliciousone
Maybe auto locked because people mass reporting it
MailenJokerbell
Probably to avoid the right wingers from coming out the woodworks

I did not see anything in that post that warranted a lock. Genuine concern was raised regarding employee safety and livelihood under this regime. Mods are being mid. Bourdain would’ve been disappointed.

I feel like there’s been a new crackdown (across Reddit) or there’s a bug/ glitch. I’ve seen more threads locked today than the last year combined.
loljustcreepin
And this is how I find out my own post got locked lol.

Because Reddit is a bought and paid for social media company just like Facebook?

I want to know what the mod team has to say about locking that thread

This doesn’t *directly* affect me as I’m Australian.
But I stand with you all. Much love and strength to all of you.

Well for me, it’s because I’m not American, presumably a lot are and I get the concern.
But because it’s solely American politics in a broad topic sub, it can come off as some sort of brigade about “care about US politics!” And fine, you may still feel that’s okay. But I always feel like we have crossed a threshold when we are mad at the mods for removing a post on the same topic. Now the sub isn’t about kitchen work at all, just about being mad at the mods.
It’s not kitchen specific (ICE is deporting all kinds of workers, so the issue doesn’t really discuss the kitchen life outside of complaining about understaffing.) but it is America specific so it doesn’t speak to everyone.. It’s not that this diminishes the cause or concern, I wish you all to keep your jobs, just saying this generally derails casual redditing.
But because you may want to hear it:
It’s unfair and Trump is a psychopath.
But what am I as a Canadian to do? I just want to laugh at kitchen work, as I work in the field. I work with immigrants, they have worked towards citizenship. We don’t have this issue. So I guess it’s just more fitting in a politics sub.
apropos_funmachine
why does the person who made the original post have illegal immigrants working at their business? how did they get hired?
kurtbrussel24
Our night shift is the ones I worry the most about. Absolutely kickass dudes that can handle thier shit, no questions asked. Might not speak English for the most part, but hands down the hardest working people in the building.
I’d fight for them any fuckin day of the week. Those are my boys.

Do we need to have a conversation about how this is a bit of a capitalist extension? The Musk deletes?
We should know this by now.

So what I’m seeing is that you sent your cooks home over fears that ICE would raid your kitchen…so you hire illegals? Trying to make sense of this because I feel like you want us to think you’re doing the right thing, when the right thing was to staff legally in the first place.
GlobalPossible2443
Any mods actually answer or what?

The post is still on my feed. I just opened reddit. Saw this post 1st.
We absolutely need to be talking about this. We have taken precautions in our kitchen as well. Thank you so much for speaking up.

If the thread gets any traction on Reddit, trolls and bots will swarm the comments and make the comment section unbearable?
Maybe send them a message to ask?

Some of us are fighting the fascists. Some others are pretending this isn’t happening. And some are complying in advance.
There’s no way out of the current mess without a fight.
You are standing up.
Some people would rather you didn’t. It might be ‘political’ or ‘off-topic.’
The entire US food industry – you know, that thing that fuels every single human in the United States – relies on cheap migrant -often undocumented – labor. To feed 350m people you need about 15 million of them to do really tough jobs in the fields, factories, farms, slaughterhouses, and kitchens.
The US Government is at war with the people who feed it. You picked a side.
