For Mother's Day I baked my mom a strawberry rhubarb pie. How did I do?

I thought you mixed chorizo with strawberries at first, I was kinda concerned until I tried to build that flavor profile in my head, then I realize it was rhubarb.

Not a bad start. Rhubarb and strawberry isn’t an easy medium either

    Crust… check.
    Filling… check.

    Congratulations. You have made pie.

It looks awesome but maybe a little dry? I think the rhubarb could have been cut into smaller pieces and I’m wondering how much sugar and thickener there was, and the ratio of strawberry to rhubarb (more sugar and Strawberry could have made it jammier). That said, I’d eat a piece without a second thought 🙂

Scrolling and I thought it was a homemade pot pie. Full of roast beef.

at first glance, i thought it was filled with chopped hot dogs and strawberries

My heart was pounding when I thought I saw hot dogs

Beautiful presentation! Try making a cream pie when you mix rhubarb and strawberry for extra deliciousness and to avoid dryness. But then be careful to first protect the crust ie with a quick egg white swipe on the base of the crust to keep crust from getting soggy. You’re doing great!!

Looks pretty and properly cooked, but I believe it’s a little dry. This is easy to fix during the thickening process. You did an amazing job for a first pie 😍😋💛

My favorite combo! Looks great! Love your crust. A good tip I’ve learned with all pie filling is to cook the filling, it will prevent that gap between the filling and crust after baking. And also reduces the filling so you have a little sauce left over, after you spoon the filling into the pie, drizzle the remaining sauce over the top before adding the top crust. Definitely making one of these soon, I personally enjoy them with a crumble top and ice cream of course 😋

mince the rhubarb more and cook them down with the strawberries slightly, add a bit of sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice and you’ll have an amazing pie. for a deeper flavor i like to add a little molasses or brown sugar if i feel lazy :)’

Great first attempt. Needs to be jammier (if that’s even a word). I would cut the rhubarb smaller next time and maybe add more strawberries and sugar? The pie filling should be, in my opinion anyway, up over the pie dish. It seems a little shallow in the dish, if that makes sense. If you feel the crust is getting too dark, but the pie is not done, cover the crust so it doesn’t dry out and get too dark. Great first attempt! I would definitely eat it without hesitation! I bet your mom was very proud and loved it. 🥧 ❤️

Looks beautiful! Great job on your first one. I love rhubarb too. With pie, it’s hard to judge if it’s really good without tasting. So many crusts look good, but don’t taste right or have an inferior texture. We do all butter flaky pastry crust (Joy of Cooking). My grandma used to run a diner. My mom taught me how to make pie. People tell me to open a pie shop all the time.

Better than my first attempt at making a pie. What do you think? Honestly, it looks good.

It looks great, this time I accidentally let my rhubarb sit overnight (in the fridge) with a couple tablespoons of sugar and a tablespoon of flour. It made a nice sort of syrup. I usually don’t let it sit overnight but it worked great. Your crust looks great, too. I would love a bite.
