Madeleine’s Petit Paris, a family-owned French restaurant in Northvale that has been a staple in the community for decades, will close for good this Sunday, the restaurant announced on its website and social media.
The heartfelt message posted by the owners expressed how it has been a pleasure to serve those in North Jersey for so long.
“We truly were blessed to have such wonderful patrons that supported us all these years. It was our pleasure to let you into our home and many into our hearts. We consider many of you more than just patrons. Many have become friends and some even family. Thank you for letting us be part of all your wonderful celebrations,” said the announcement.
The closing was posted on the Facebook page on Thursday. The message said not all menu items will be available during the final days.
In 2000, the chef Gaspard Caloz brought his expertise in French cuisine to Madeleine’s Petit Paris at Tappan Road, the restaurant’s website states. In 1988, the chef and his wife Madeleine opened Chez Madeleine Restaurant in Bergenfield.
The couple’s son, Francois, carried on the legacy of his parents managing the restaurant before its closing.
The French restaurant serves an array of French dishes with meats, pastas, soups, salads, wines and other exquisite entrees and appetizers.
Plenty of satisfied customers have left warm reviews of the eatery on their website. “Food and service is amazing. The mussels and scallops are my absolute favorite. Authentic French food in a warm and inviting atmosphere,” said customer Christine Sunier.
Other patrons were saddened by the closing, and some expressed their gratitude to the restaurant on Facebook under the announcement. One commented, “I had the best experience at Madeleine’s for my Sweet 16, you guys were so helpful and accommodating to us. It’s a shame I won’t get to go back but best of luck with all your future endeavors.”
Madeleine’s Petit Paris jokingly posted in the Facebook message that no one is allowed to cry when the restaurant says its goodbyes in the coming days.
