Seen many brands on here but never a clear answer on which one is decent overall.

Whats a decently priced thermometer that will work for a cook?

And how do you guys make sure your smoker is accurate?

Please and thank you.

I’m sure this brand is fine, just be sure to get one that reads temps in 1-2 seconds. You can calibrate probes with either ice water (32F) or boiling water (212F).

I have a Javelin Pro. Waterproof, backlit, magnetic, 1-second reads, 32F out of the box.

I’ve got a free one that I got with an order from Uline, it seems to work just fine. I would appreciate a 4 probe thermometer set-up, but whatever.

  3. I had the red one and that shit was terrible i would never buy another so take that how you will

I have the ThermoPro TP03B. I’ve had good luck with it.

Get the thermopen one. It’s literally hands down the best and it’s light years ahead of these ones. They’re on sale right now as well for i think 68 bucks. Can’t beat it.

I’ve gone through too many thermopros. I’m done! 6-12 months and then they stop being accurate. Sometimes I wonder how long I’ve been relying on it meanwhile it’s been off. Bought another cheaper brand and had the same results.

I bit the bullet and got a thermapen. It’s only been about 6 months so I don’t have a long term review yet.

I’ve been fairly happy with inkbird wireless probes for long cooks that I want to monitor. They’re not too bad for what you’re getting and frequently on sale. For an instant read, Thermapen is the way to go. It’s reliable, customer service is great if you ever have an issue and they send a small pack.of jelly beans in the box when you buy it.

I have both of those and both are pretty good.

  9. Thermapen or Fireboard.

All will measure temperatures pretty well, but the cheap ones will take 10-20 seconds to give you an accurate temperature.

I’ve had my same thermapen for about 2 years now and it gets used for any and all cooking with zero issues.

Thermoworks is the way to go. They make stuff for laboratories and professions where if the temperature isn’t right, bad things happen.

The product you want is the Thermopen. We’ve used one of those for years without any issues. They make a variety of different Thermopens. If you want to spend more, you can get one that will read the temperature in one second. We have the less expensive one that reads in 2-3 seconds. Personally, I think that’s fine. I’m not in that much of a rush.

  12. Thermopen. They have sales during Black Friday/Cyber Monday

ThermoWorks Thermopen ONE is the best investment you can make. It’s a lot for a thermometer but worth every penny. I use it all the time.

For a cheaper multi probe option, ThermoPro wireless works well.

    Don’t buy MEATER.

Thermoworks wired probes and a wifi (not Bluetooth) box for me. The wired probes give me a constant readout and a graph of the temperature. If I want to check another part of the meat, the 10 seconds or so delay from a non “instant” reading isn’t going to change anything.

Replacement probes cost almost nothing and checking the accuracy is as simple as boiling water and taking a reading, so long as you are aware of your altitude.
