Now you need to mark it and let it grow for 3-4 years

Ooh, is this what asparagus looked like before human cultivation? I can see the potential in its little stalks!

    Wonderful treat!

Is this a new to you garden?

If someone planted the asparagus I would think it’s safe to harvest this year. If you’re unsure maybe split the difference and take a year off.

We found a three year crown one spring growing up, in our lawn about ten feet from the tree line. I was five and I loved asparagus (of all things). I excitedly showed Dad and he made sure not to mow there, we got a solid 15 years of harvests from it before it stopped producing. I have a friend whose (on purpose planted) crowns lasted 25 years. You’re so lucky!
