I know some of you will say it’s not a big deal, just eat it. But I went way over maintenance today and two other days this week (mother’s day, birthday, a recent engagement in the family, so a lot of celebratory overeating and having to guess calories). The full portion of pasta is supposedly 870 calories and I tried to split it in half, but honestly this looks like more than 435 calories…I feel like throwing it out would be a waste, especially because it is delicious, but the idea of not knowing how much this portion is stresses me out cuz now I have to plan out the rest of the day’s calorie intake around it. I’d much rather be able to track every single thing I eat tomorrow and not feel like I have to restrict myself just to make sure I have enough room for this. Plus, there’s not a ton of protein in this meal and I feel like I’d need to add more just for it to keep me feeling satisfied and closer to my protein goal.

Any advice on what to do? This honestly looks like at least 600 calories worth of food imo. Not on a deficit but my maintenance is 1,800. Not a low number, I can easily fit it in, but idk I need to be smart about my macros and one unplanned meal can easily throw me off. Especially after a few days of overeating and overindulging in “treat” foods, I wanna get back into my normal routine, and I feel like it’s harder with this extra food😭 i come from a household where we were expected to finish our plates and throwing out a bunch was seen as wasteful (the concept of mottainai was thrown around a lot to anyone who is familiar w that in Japanese lol).

give it to a homeless person it will make you feel good and no need to stress so much, good food will always come back around:)

if it stresses you out so much, a homeless person would definitely appreciate it. but also, it really doesn’t seem like too big of a deal to me to eat it, especially with 1800 calorie maintenance. I think you’d be ok.

  4. honestly the best way to get back into your normal routine is to eat the spaghetti if you want tomorrow, don’t track it, continue eating normally as if you didn’t have the spaghetti and then keep the momentum moving the next day without the spaghetti.

  5. Wasting good is a sin. Do not throw out that food! Eat it, or give it to someone or something else.

Calorie counting should never cause mental distress, Nor should it cause an unhealthy relationship with food. The whole point is to be healthy, yes?

Calories trumps macros, and you absolutely don’t need to be perfect to lose or maintain weight. Google the nutrition professor who ate a diet of twinkies and lost 27 pounds to prove to his class that it could be done. Actually, here it is:

Eat the spaghetti, enjoy every bite, and start fresh tomorrow. In the grand scheme of building a long term healthy routine a half a meal of spaghetti will impact absolutely nothing. 👍
