I grabbed a 20 year old BGE from a pal for $150 a couple of years ago. I guarantee he never changed the gasket. I finally bit the bullet and decided to replace it. Holy cow…it took a few hours, a chisel, razor blades, a hair dryer, goo gone, rubbing alcohol, and a wire brush to get the original gasket off. I will wait a couple of days before I cook with it. But, all in all, I am pretty proud of myself. YouTube and this forum to the rescue!

Hey, this looks really great. I’m about to spring clean my BGE and a gasket replacement is on the cards. Anything you can recommend works / doesn’t work. I’m reluctant to remove the lid for example but looks like you did and that it’s necessary. Thanks!
Don’t overthink it. And the Rutland gasket is by the best and last forever. Only apply to the bottom. Lookup Captain Ron Rutland gasket. Thank me later LoL
Welcome to BGE world! — it is a great place to be.
My BGE is 20 yrs old … maybe I need a new gasket…
Also we have to prop the lid up with a stick … so also a new hinge?!
