After cancelling my order, I followed up with Nespresso to provide feedback. I am sharing their response for everyone’s information.

So, where’s the original post? Why did they ask you for the additional info. I wouldn’t send that info in, either.

    OPs original post here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/nespresso/comments/1kg474g/nespresso_asking_for_copies_of_gov_issued_id_and/](https://www.reddit.com/r/nespresso/comments/1kg474g/nespresso_asking_for_copies_of_gov_issued_id_and/)

OP, I would NEVER in a million years provide that info to Nespresso. Personally, I would file a complaint with the privacy commissioner in your province and the federal privacy commissioner, as well as the BBB and X/Twitter. Nespresso can ask to verify the means of payment (usually through some sort of 2FA), but they aren’t entitled to your gov’t issue ID or utility bills. If I did provide that info, I would black out anything except my name and address (because they aren’t entitled to my DL number or expiry date, nor what I pay for utilities).

This is NOT common practice by retailers in Canada. At all. The only place I have ever had my ID checked while using a credit card is at a grocery store in the USA (which is also weird).

Yikes, this whole interaction with them makes me wonder if I made a huge mistake investing in their machine this week. I would absolutely not be willing to provide them with that information and since there are very limited other places to purchase I would be very upset by this request as well. This reflects very poorly on the company.

Also… “rest assured” you can just trust us to do the right thing… because corporations are notorious for safeguarding private information and putting customers above profit.

I feel like the language in that response is very strange, spammy/chatGPT-y, or is that just me?

I know in the US, if the billing and shipping address are different, that can sometimes cause issues. And if the billing address listed doesn’t match the actually address the credit card company has on file, that generally gets shut down quick.

Never heard of sending documentation though, just told to fix the error and gave to deal with the money being on hold with the credit card company until it falls off.

Yah, no. Still report it. They don’t want to divulge their “internal guidelines” to you, but want all of your personal information. No.

  8. mister_damage

I would also report them as well. That answer was disappointing to say the least.

  9. Oh, Canada! Nestlé thinks you (Canadians) are an easy sample to try. US is soon to be. (Sorry no offense to Northern neighbors who blocks all the wind chills for us!)

I would order via Amazon. Or if you have Home Goods, etc. they have a lot of Nespresso pods on discount. (OL lines).

Better yet, just get a real espresso machine. Not that hard to learn. and much delicious too! With no bull$#it strings attached. r/espresso is a good place to start.

I know you were originally ordering the machine, I wonder if they’d limit you from buying coffee?

I hope your complaint goes somewhere.

  11. Wow that is so weird. I understand they MIGHT be trying to prevent cc theft/ people using other’s credit card illegally. But I would NEVER submit that kind of personal info to an off shores customer service person.

  12. woodbeificouldbe

This is spam. There are typos in the text that would not be there coming from Nespresso. Also, they would give a better answer than “we can’t disclose our guidelines”. Absolutely do not send them your information.

  13. Comprehensive_Cod170

Yeah I will NEVER hand over my drivers license and my utility bills to a RETAIL company. This is a ridiculous over-reach on their part. Glad you canceled the order.

  14. Cancel your account and just open a new one. Don’t give in to these greedy corps. If there’s suspicious activity, they need to deal with it on their end. They’re not selling cars or houses or dealing with gov related things to justify asking that.

  15. KauaiWahine

I know that Canadians are trying not to use American companies, but you circumvent Nespresso and order from Amazon

  16. Altruistic_Ad9038

If you’re paying for the order at the time of ordering, wtf do they need ANY additional information for? To what end? What “fraudulent order” nonsense are they speaking of?

No chance I would send any of the information. I’d say call them. If they want your PII you have a right to know what they are using it for.
