That looks like Kobe over sushi rice aka sushi. The plate you have looks appropriate for that dish/course. A very saucy dish sure but sushi? Eh having a plate at all beyond the serving plate isn’t really needed.

The two large “plates” are more like a placemat. You aren’t meant to eat directly off it, and other dishes are served on individual plates and bowls.
