Grill was on sale this weekend at walmart, first time not living in an apartment so figured might as well go ahead and grab one. VERY new to grilling, any tips and trick are helpful, I watched a couple of videos before starting and I believe it turned out okay, unfortunately didn’t get a pick of the food. This grill has 4 vents and an option handle (right side) to lower and raise the charcoal, why is that? Thanks in advanced! (Also don’t worry porch is on the summer to do list)

Haters will hate, but this is a fine start. Congrats on the new place and cook on!

For few seconds, I thought it was a $21 million new home and wondered what makes them buy a budget friendly grill.

I would recommend using a paper plate under your raw food on the side shelf, just to prevent cross contamination between cooked and raw, it’s a minor grump, but a valid issue. Enjoy the world of cooking over live coals.

  4. Dude a charcoal grill needs a box, grates, vents, and some way to raise and lower the coals. You have all that, this will last you for a while. Now go get a charcoal chimney to make your life 100% better

This is a very decent grill. The ash tray can be a messy pain in the ass and the charcoal platform WILL rust out, but there are fixes for that. Source: I have been using this very grill for about three years

  6. First rule of charcoal cooking, be patient. They take a while and there is a learning curve. You’ll get it but just take your time, let the coals get hot, learn the art of a good beverage with it, and don’t forget a lawn chair to relax in.

Congrats, if that is vinyl siding you may want to turn your grill to face away from the house. I melted my siding after a years worth of grilling with all the heat escaping near the back.

Enjoy your new addiction, we all started off with something similar, and some of us just can’t say no to a new grill…..

Get a chimney for starting your charcoal. No need to taste lighter fluid
