Las Vegas (KSNV) — U.S. News & World Report has announced its 2025 Best Diets, marking a shift from ranking to rating diets.

The 15th edition evaluates 38 diets across 21 categories, with the Mediterranean diet once again emerging as the top-rated diet in multiple categories.

Gretel Schueller, managing editor of health at U.S. News, said, “Best Diets’ updated rating evaluation system reflects the diverse needs and goals of individuals, considering factors beyond weight loss.” She added, “By moving away from a ranked list of diets and nearly doubling our number of evaluated health and lifestyle categories, U.S. News aims to provide consumers with a more personalized experience as they consider their health priorities and eating goals.”

The focus of healthy eating has expanded beyond weight loss to include overall well-being and chronic disease prevention.

U.S. News introduced 12 new categories for evaluation, such as Best Diets for Arthritis, Brain Health & Cognition, and Mental Health, among others.

Among the top-rated diets, the Mediterranean Diet scored a 4.8 in the Best Overall Diets category, followed by the DASH Diet at 4.6 and the Flexitarian Diet at 4.5.

For specific health needs, the Low-FODMAP Diet was rated the best for IBS with a 4.8, while the Menopause Diet led its category with a 4.6 rating.

U.S. News advises individuals to consult medical professionals when choosing a diet that suits their needs.
