Sundays are the worst, caught this one yesterday. By Sunday my entire crew is absolutely drained, we’re literally the dumbest version of ourselves, everything is heavier, every ticket sounds louder, and we get some of the worst customers.

Later that evening we have a 4-top, 2 of which magically had a canola allergy, there must be a social club for these people to meet each other. They wanted our cowboy steak, bone-in 28 oz ribeye, our grill is contaminated, any of our pans are seasoned, they wanted Pittsburg style, flattop was just cleaned, “sorry boys, we have to ruin your work for this, I know we closed 10 minutes ago.”

“I’m sorry but we can’t safely accommodate your allergies at this time.”

  2. USofAThrowaway

Can I say this one doesn’t look TERRIBLE besides the possibility of cross contact?

  3. consumeshroomz

    “No salt on anything”

    “Veggies in butter”

    Yep, checks out.

  4. May I interest you in a nice glass of water …

    Yikes.

    > 2 of which magically had a canola allergy

I would bet a lot of money that their “allergy” is just them worried that canola oil is unsafe to eat after watching one too many pseudoscience YouTube videos

Ok. So you need to not fight with the servers or FOH. But explain they should have put a *see server on the check and came back and explained what the dietary restrictions are.

This wasted their time and yours. They should just come back and said “this person has a ton of allergies. Just no salt and butter on the veg only.”

  7. Spottykus

I dont mind making an allergy item if possible but im not reading the ticket like that. Especially if its a larger party ticket. Make an allergy note on the ticket for sure, but write all that shit down another way. I like my tickets as easy to read as possible.

  8. TurbulentMiddle2970

We cannot accommodate and guarantee the safety of this request in good conscience.

  9. This ticket says, “the server does not want the kitchen to yell at them so they ring all that nonsense into the POS rather than hit the ‘see server’ key.”

So just a ribeye without seasoning and some veg prepared the same way? In all my years cooking at various calibers mods really aren’t that hard to accommodate for as long as you have leadership and staff equipped and knowledgeable enough to accommodate to. A paying customer is just that. Just make it work. Make the experience memorable. That’s our job.

Medium steak with no seasonings, asparagus in butter. Whats the issue? Do you only have salted butter? Welp, no butter for your veg. Aside from her ridiculous list of allergies and going out to eat somewhere that serves all that on the menu, just do your best.

No social club needed since we have the internet. One of the worst parts is all different varieties of horrible people no longer have to seek each other out in difficult avenues.

  13. Win-Objective

Seems like an easy order, the allergies aren’t hard. Literally wants unsalted steak cooked medium with butter sautéed spinach and asparagus.

If anything this, besides being a special request so you can’t autopilot, will be quicker to cook than your regular plate up.

  14. Billiam better be coming to check with me after ringing this in, its when they dont that I get a lil annoyed personally.

  15. metlotter

It’s odd to me that so many people are allergic to canola, but nobody’s allergic to Napa cabbage, broccoli raab, bok choy, turnips, etc. They’re all the same species.

  16. latouchefinale

How long do you boil a steak to get it to medium?

  17. mynameisnotsparta

We always call ahead if someone in our party has dietary issues or allergies to make sure we can be accommodated.

  18. Oh ffs just sear the steak on both sides and send it naked, it’s a crime against cows but they appear to be allergic to flavor.

  19. Eloquent_Redneck

My favorite part is how they ordered a steak, but specified that they were allergic to strawberries, like ok lady, I’ll keep that in mind

  20. chiggitychan

This is actually pretty easy. Grill the steak, sauté the spinach in butter, shut the fuck up, and keep working.

  21. We go a lady that was allergic to garlic and onion,i work in a Mexican fine dining ,everything has onion and garlic, she. Told me i. Was a i was giving her bad service because i couldn’t find a solution, that i wasn’t smart enough to just give her an avocado and. A tortilla to eat ,she cried ,she said i was inconsiderate and incompetent

  22. BrooklynSmokes

I’m not cooking shit that bitch can go home and eat. Lls my inner kitchen voice as I make this Karen’s food

  23. Ok_Appeal_850

Looks like they are getting ice for dinner

  24. 401kcrypto

    Easy work.

Steak in a pan in the oven with nothing on it.

    Or

Fish in a pan in the woven with nothing on it.

    Done.

  25. I am not your mother. Make it yourself if you are allergic.

  26. God, that’s a lot. My wife has an allergy to soy and butter and gluten – at least the main 3 things like that. She always feels bad getting them to not use butter on things.
And tbh they often mess up with those cause soy is in so much stuff too. Even if we do just get steak and steamed veggies.

Luckily it’s not life threatening just an unfortunate evening for her.
We just don’t eat out a lot tbh. Some wait staff are very accommodating and don’t seem to mind a butter and soy allergy. And some seem to think we came to them just to make their lives miserable for that evening.

So i tend to just prefer to make her a home cooked meal instead of dealing with the coin flip of will our server hate us for something outside of our control.

Idk if there’s an easy or correct way to do this, or if we just aren’t expected to ever eat out with her allergies. But I worked at a restaurant for a year and saw the same thing there. Some waitstaff bitched about any allergy and some just couldn’t care less, couple buttons and a heads up to the chef and life moved on.

  27. funthebunison

Honestly, just throw a jar of Italian seasoning at her. She’ll probably flee without having time to complain.

  28. SituationSad4304

This isn’t actually bad. The allergies aren’t part of the dish. Don’t add extra salt.

  29. OkAssignment6163

    >no salt on anything
    >
    >saute veggies in butter

Ooooh… Sorry…. We only have salted butter in house….

I had customers at both PF Changs and the last Italian place I worked at come in with garlic allergies. PF Changs was easier to accomodate that but, who goes out for Italian with a garlic allergy? Find something else.
