I recently decided that I could make decorated cookies… thanks tik tok. But apparently it’s so much harder than it looks😂 I decided to make 4th of July just so I had a theme to follow, and only had to make 3 colors. I think my biggest issue is the consistencies of the flood and the outline icings. I have a feeling if those were better, my issues would be resolved. I can’t get my outlines to be round enough, and can’t figure out how to make the points where I stop a line to not look… jagged? Or pointy? Or too thick? I don’t know how to explain. This is only my first try ever so I’m not too mad about it but also was convinced I could easily pick this up. It’s definitely and art that I have no experience in.

i don’t have any advice but i love them they are so cute!
You just gotta keep practicing, but this is a really good start!
Icing consistency is truly the most important thing. If you let your flood icing sit for a bit the air bubbles will raise to the top and you can pop them before bagging.
Your outline icing should be thick, but also smooth if that makes sense. Adding a tiny bit of water would help the lines be more fluid
I love them
You can and are decorating cookies – these look great! My line work was horrendous when I first started (and it’s still something I struggle with).
It seems every cookier likes their consistency a little different when it comes to line work. For example @downtowndoughto on IG teaches a hybrid consistency in her writing class, but I can never get that consistency look good writing.
When you’re doing detail work, avoiding the blobs at the beginning and end are a combo of consistency, cut and size of the cut of your piping bag, hand pressure, and patience. As others have said – practice and time gets this down.
If you want some more cookie set ideas specifically for beginners, I offer free cookie guides and videos at [iced.kitchen](https://www.iced.kitchen).
My critique is to make cookies featuring a better country
