I didn’t realize how large Cucumber plants would get when I planted 3 in a bucket and 2 about 5”-6” apart.
I know what needs to be done but I don’t know if I have the strength to do it.
It’s not their fault…they’re innocent!!

Are you sure that’s a cucumber plant? Looks like winter squash/pumpkin by the size of the leaves and flowers.

If it helps, I am absolutely going to be in the same boat in a few weeks.

Should I murder one of the plants in the garden bed? I’m 99.9% sure I need to kill 2 of the 3 plants in the bucket.
Thoughts?

I have a 10-10-10 fertilizer I use every 2 – 3 weeks. Some say it’s too much but none of my “kids” have died so far.

Hey, I say keep them and trellis them apart so they both get light. I don’t believe crowding is as big an issue if you just compensate with more trellis, food, water, and pruning. Spread out the leaves for airflow and light. Water thoroughly so roots spread. A fertile soil will have more nutrients than a single plant can use. Cut back disease and crowded areas early
Working so far for me. Here are a few dozen mixed cucurbits, a dozen beans, a tomatoe, and some okra and misc sharing a 2’x8′ bed. 🤷

Haters say it’s too crowded, but we shall see.

Increase fertilization and allow them to trail off the sides (with support of possible).
If you are willing to fertilize more than usual you can for quite a few plants in a small (soil) space.
