20th May 2025 – (Paris) French restaurant owner, Philippe Schneider, has confessed to the murder of a recluse during a failed robbery attempt, followed by the dismemberment and cooking of body parts with vegetables to conceal the crime, as reported.
Philippe Schneider, aged 69, and his partner Nathalie Caboubassy, aged 45, are currently facing trial for their alleged roles in the killing of 60-year-old Georges Meichler, who went missing in 2023.
Schneider, a former butcher, reportedly disclosed to law enforcement that he and Caboubassy carried out the fatal act during a burglary gone wrong at Meichler’s residence in the secluded village of Brasc in France, as detailed by the Telegraph. While Schneider has provided a gruesome account of the events, Caboubassy has denied any participation. The alleged killer’s shocking admission included details of dismembering the victim’s body, burning certain body parts, and scattering remains in and around the crime scene, including Meichler’s van, which they used to flee, as per court testimonies.
Schneider also claimed to have attempted to cook parts of the victim’s body in a pot of vegetables, citing a religious ritual he had learned about in Nepal, in an attempt to mask any odours, as reported by the outlet.
Another individual implicated in the case, a 25-year-old gravedigger, testified that Schneider instructed him to cook the meat to a tender state and to explain away any inquiries by attributing it as “food for the dog,” according to the Sun.
The trial further revealed the victim’s daughter filing a missing persons report after unusual texts purportedly from Meichler, along with the subsequent discovery of Meichler’s remains and blood in the stolen van, leading to the arrest of Schneider and Caboubassy.
Schneider, acknowledging his actions and attributing them to a troubled state induced by substance abuse, faces charges of kidnapping resulting in death, corpse concealment, and corpse integrity endangerment, with Caboubassy and the gravedigger facing complicity charges in the case. A verdict is anticipated to be delivered on 22nd May.
