It may be pretentious, but honestly, I love mine. Sure it’s a want not a need, but at home it makes it much easier to monitor long cooks of large chunks of meat on the grill. I just used it on a leg of lamb last night. It lets me keep tabs on the meat while prepping other stuff in the house without having to go in and out and keep opening the lid, plus it predicts how much time until it’s done based on the measured conditions, and gives you a heads up when its getting close like when you’re 5 min out. It also will remind you how long to rest the meat, and via its “over temp” alert can alert you to flareups too. That said, I don’t have the “Pro” version.

Lol nah I like our thermos. I need to get my own in reality, but my work loads scattered throughout the place. Although taking a few steps is to grab one is way less efficient than reaching in my pocket. I do have a stupid question about probes tho. This company comes in and audits us like a health inspector, but it’s not actually a legal health inspector (they only report to the employer, like an insurance. Waste of money imo) and they use laser thermos. We only have probes but I noticed the last two times they come in the readings aren’t the same. It was a diced product they temped, but using a probe thermo wouldn’t it just be taking the air temp within the product? Vs a solid piece of something like a chicken breast. Are laser thermos more accurate?
I mean we let our mgrs use them on us to tell if we had fever during COVID lol tool for pandemic vs my tomatoes are .3 degrees over
