My roommate had to put his dog down today, so I decided I wanted to cook her a steak for her last dinner. First time ever reverse searing, what do you guys think? A little more medium than I had intended, and a bit of grey band, but I’m very happy with how it turned out. And she was also very happy haha. We let her lick the cutting board afterwards too.

having almost lost my dog earlier this year, i’d appreciate the effort you put into that steak to give them a special sendoff – regardless if the dog knew what they were getting. nice job

This makes me feel all kinds of ways.

Beautiful steak and beautiful gesture for the dog, but so sad.

    This is awesome!

The dog may not know how lucky he is!

What a good human you are. Although it’s really sad, I love seeing stuff like this.

The care you took in preparing that, it shows!

  9. I hope you didn’t put pepper on it. Dogs hate pepper, or maybe it’s cinnamon they hate 🤔

Odd question but why cook it? It’s a dog they can eat raw meat

I had to put my dog down last Friday. It was heartbreaking.

We ate fancy cheeseburgers and chocolate ice cream.

    You’re a good friend!

My GSD is 15 and knocking on that same door. This hit hard, thanks for sharing

  13. Putting down a dog is the hardest thing to do but I’m sure this was an amazing last meal! Looks great

  14. Bro, you made it perfectly and you gave them both an amazing last memory of each other. You are a great human and animal friend.

Looks like a great job for a first attempt at reverse searing. Well done! (congratulatory, not temperature. Haha)

Beyond the method, this is a very kind gesture. My condolences to you and your roommate. You’re a great friend.

I spend more time than is healthy thinking about saying goodbye to my dog. She’s an almost 7 year old lab. She’s my world, and probably more than she should be because she was adopted and raised by my late fiancé and I. My late fiancé passed away beside me in a head on collision with a drunk driver in August of 2020 at just 26 years old. My dog feels like the last living connection I have to her and so losing my dog will feel like losing them both officially and this keeps me up at night.

At first I was pissed at the title and now I’m trying not to cry. A+ on the steak, A+ on the sweet gesture for ol’puppo, and A+ on that emotional rollercoaster
