  1. Just goes to show that everything is overpriced in the US. This is a $50+ plate.

$15 actually seems a little on the high side. I would have guess $12. Then again, it is much bigger than the ones I usually get.

Man, the supermarket sushi here in the US just can’t even compare.

this is absolutely gorgeous! how much did that cost in the supermarket? and do you mean by supermarket, a food supermarket or the glorious department stores and their food courts??

I need to show everyone the UK Tesco Meal deal option!

  7. I would gladly pay $1,400 for a round trip plane ticket just to eat that!

There were a few nights in Japan that I did this. The selection is huge and the vibe I got from the rest of the grocery store was it was a pretty normal grocery store, ie not like a fancy supermarket like Whole Foods or Plum Market in the US. I want to say we spent about $30 usd for 4 or 5 different trays and we were stuffed.

I spent 3 months on a fellowship at University of Tokyo while I was doing my PhD.

Konbini sushi (and all Konbini food really) punches way above its weight. One of my favorite memories is getting supermarket sushi and a shit ton of snacks with my Japanese lab mates and watching Train to Busan on a campus projector in a lecture hall.
