I just cleaned out my grill with a shop vac immediately before cooking. Fired it up hoping for 0-400 chicken thighs. Grill starts billowing smoke. I’ve seen this movie before so I immediately cut it off. Wait an hour for cooling, open up the hood to a bunch of pellet ash and coal. I clean it out again.. fire it up and the auger is pushing out already burnt pellets. Idk if this is normal or not so I let or run until normal pellets showed, cleaned it all for the third time and fired it back up. Now I’m getting this shit at 400. Idk about yall but I don’t get much smoke production typically at 400. I can also see the flames flickering in the reflection of the aluminum foil. What on earth am I doing wrong??

Not totally sure but it sounds like you have some back burn. Are you getting to 400? I would get a bunch of auger burn when I used Kirkland pellets and when I switched it went away. Is your hopper fully closed? Can you hear your blower fan?
Did you close the top as soon as you started cooking?
My Camp Chef did something similar and it was an airflow issue. Is your smokestack blocked with gunk?
Based on the sound, I’d say you revved her a little too high and you threw a rod.
