Ayu in cottonseed oil by Kimura Suisan Co,).
I believe canned by Takenaka canning co.

these little guys were just gorgeous to look at . Whole fish, like they just came out of the lake. For me this was my favorite part, visually just beautiful 😍.
Subtle sweetness in the beginning and finished with bitter undertones. Texture with eating it whole was mushy, the head and organs completely took over the texture. separately the actual flesh was firm, giving it a slightly cured mouth feel.

Thanks for taking that (bitter) bullet for us.

I wish there were more whole fish canned like these. I love whole fried/baked smelts and wish a canned version of them existed. Never seen anything like this on the shelves.

This is why we are grateful to all those women in Portuguese factories who behead and gut our fishies. 🙏

I had a very similar product from japan before. My experience was very similar to yours. Took the first bite from the tail and thought wow this is great. Second bite was the middle part which was mushy but still didn’t taste bad. But the head was a bit too mich for my taste. Had a very strong aftertaste and i didn’t like the texture.
