2021 as a vintage is marked by pronounced freshness, with dominant floral and balsamic notes. Flaccianello 2021 reveals a deep ruby hue with violet reflections. You can taste notes of ripe black cherries, raspberries, dark plums and hints of violet, dried herbs, and exotic spices. Subtle undertones of tobacco, leather, and cedar emerge with time in the glass thanks to 24 months of aging in French barrique.
This wine is full bodied yet impeccably balanced, with fine-grained tannins and a dynamic acid backbone. Once opened up, always to the palate it reveals notes of concentrated fruit, dark chocolate, and mineral nuances, while the long, persistent finish carries notes of black tea and graphite.

Great note
It’s become somewhat more approachable over recent vintages but this is a wine that iMHO needs and deserves some years. I have some 06 and 09 that are in a good spot.
I did have a 2019 last summer that showed amazing potential but needs more time.
If you ever have the chance to visit it’s a stunning place.
Infanticide a bit but flacc is flacc. I would drink it at any age. Love this wine. Perhaps my top 5.
Hey hey, nice writeup! I love Flaccianello and Fontodi in general. I’ve got a bottle of 2017 in my cellar that I’m planning on holding for a while.
I’m also a huge fan of their Chianti Classico, their Gran Selezione, and their Syrah.
