On Wednesday I picked up my cousin from the airport and asked him where he wanted to go for lunch. He said Sadie's and bought us 2 Sadie's specials. Weighing just a little less than 3 pounds, Sadie's special comes with big bone galbi, BBQ chicken, meat jun, a fried shrimp, a fried mandoo on a bed of rice and banchan. It literally had enough food for 2 meals for me but my cousin finished his in one sitting. I definitely needed a nap after this one.

(Sorry if you seen me post this previously, I have no idea why the color was all washed out when I tried to post it then, so I deleted it)

I understand that ethnic foods are often localized to suit the tastes of the local population. In that sense, many so-called “American-style” burgers and sandwiches sold in Korea are essentially Koreanized versions, somewhere between the original and the local.

That said, I find it hard to consider the American-style “Korean” food that comes in a single box as authentic enough to be called Korean. I’m sorry, but to me, it just doesn’t feel Korean. The ethnic identity seems to be lost somewhere in the dishes.

  2. Shit looks epic!! I miss the days when galbi used to be cheap.
