This spot is an absolute must and I’m so mad I never went here sooner.
Took mom for a Mother’s Day lunch. As busy as they were, everything went off without a hitch!
To start we ordered the halibut crudo. The quality of the fish is superb. So soft and delicate even thick cut as it was. Light touch of tart and sharpness from the citrus abs pickled toppings.
For the main courses:
Lobster Croque Connie: ($38) essentially a lobster Croque monsieur. This was phenomenal. The thick toast was still light and fluffy with a crispy exterior. And it was FULL of lobster. I think the lobster was slightly overcooked maybe by 30 seconds but it didn’t take away from the tender meat or the sweet flavor. Nice layer of Gruyère for cheesy goodness, topped with a gorgeous egg, and the whole thing sitting in a rich figaro sauce which is a tomato hollandaise.
Shrimp Chilaquiles: ($24) seriously this is better than most chilaquiles you’ll find in LA. Thick chips that stayed crunchy throughout the entire meal. More gorgeous eggs. Cheesiness with every bite. Perfectly cooked shrimp. And an outstanding salsa roja slathered on every bit.
Batter-Dip fried cod fish sandwich: ($22) simple has never been better. Fluffy and tasty brioche holding together an absolute unit of a crunchy cod filet. Topped with just tartar sauce and lettuce. The fries were crunchy, not greasy, lightly salted, and light.
Key Lime Pie: one of the best you’ll eat. Tart and velvety filling with bits and pieces of lime. A somewhat savory and bold crust that is sticky delicious. And the merengue is light, slightly sweet, and torched just before serving because it was still warm when brought to the table!
Orange Creamsicle sundae: (I’m not sure if this is a new current special or it was just a Mother’s Day weekend option) creamy ice cream with an orange-caramel sauce, folded with candied kumquats and candied walnuts. Best sundae I’ve ever eaten
