Nestled at the foot of the Andes on a sweeping plain, Clos de Los Siete is captivating. Across 2,100 acres of vineyards, Bordeaux families led by Michel Rolland have turned this wide-open landscape into an edenic vineyard encircled by a stone wall in the classic French style of a clos. For twenty years, they’ve cultivated Bordelaise grape varieties in the shadow of the mountains and reshaped perceptions of Argentine wine in the process.

The newly released 2021 Clos de Los Siete represents their 20th anniversary release, and the elegant red overflows with complexity and nuance. A glittering ruby in the glass, the Malbec-led blend reveals wave after wave of concentrated berry, plum, and wild herb aromas. Across the full-bodied palate, the wine is a testament to Rolland’s masterful blending: Bright acidity balances silken tannins, supporting a mélange of fruit flavors and hints of baking spice, cocoa, and river rock minerality.

After making wine in 21 countries and at more than 200 wineries, Rolland instantly recognized the potential of Clos de Los Siete. Here, cloud-kissed altitudes and well-draining gravelly soils, similar to those in Bordeaux, combine with a dry climate and natural irrigation from underground springs and Andean snowmelt. The synthesis of these four elements—climate, soil, water, and altitude—is incredibly rare according to Rolland, which inspired him to gather six Bordeaux families together to establish the Clos de Los Siete estate in the 1980s. The families planted all of Bordeaux’s flagship grapes, but with a higher proportion of Malbec, which reaches its apex in Argentina. Bridging Old and New World grape growing and winemaking practices, the estate continues to demonstrate the Uco Valley’s natural penchant for world-class red wines.

One of the most magnificent single vineyards in the world, Clos de Los Siete captures the spirit of the Andes and the rich winemaking heritage of Bordeaux. Crafted with meticulous detail and blended by Rolland himself based on the character of each component and the overall vintage, the 2021 is a highly nuanced testament to the Uco Valley and Rolland’s winemaking mastery. With the powerful structure to thrive in the cellar yet smooth tannins that simultaneously allow Clos de Los Siete to be enjoyed upon release, the 2021 Clos de Los Siete is a fitting testament to the estate’s 20th anniversary.
