Time for a jar of sardines instead of a can.

INGREDIENTS: Fresh Fish, Olive Oil, Pickles, Carrots, Iodized Salt, Chili and Spices

Interestingly, they feature Sardinella Longiceps which is also known as the Indian Sardine which is limited to the regions of the Indian Ocean.

From an aesthetic perspective, I should have turned this jar of sardines that traveled from the Philipines upside down after opening. I tried to fish them out of the jar, which resulted in most of them breaking apart. When I stared down the barrel initially there were about 8 sardines. You’ll have to trust me.

These contained the usual “Spanish” additions including pickles, carrots, salt chili and spices. Many of these cans usually have chili as the frontrunner, but here it trails the pack. It was apparent in the taste.

The sardines had a very strong almost river water smell which initially had me worried. The taste was bold but nothing too out of the ordinary with a firm initial bite that easily gives way. These are definitely not hot – more of a pickled spice flavor – and it is very flavorful with a hint of chili. Not even enough to affect the sinuses. A very enjoyable jar of sardines.
