Finally bought a Weber Master Touch 22” Kettle, and while I’m assembling I for some reason thought to check the functionality of the P-vents, and when I move the gear shift all the way to the left they don’t fully close. I was using the AI ChatBot which thinks it may be a part issue (there’s some resistance sliding it and it almost sounds like it’s scraping the inside of the bowl), but immediately asked for part numbers and I don’t know what would solve the issue.

Has anyone experienced this? It’s outside their call hours, so I’ll have to try calling tomorrow.

I’m pretty sure I’ve assembled everything correctly this far; handle of bottom bowl aligns with non-wheel leg, images on slider appear to the right of the handle, etc. The images for the slider was right to put on, and the legs were pretty snug as well; however, it doesn’t seem like the gear shift handle is hitting anything.

Do I need to go through warranty for new parts? How would I know if I need a new bowl, vs the two parts making up the vent?

  1. There looks like a bend in the handle rod. Twist it 180 degrees and see if it improves.

It may also be that it’s not suppose to be bent.

  2. Your handle is slightly bent looking. If it was straight, you would be able to move the lever farther and close the vent all the way

Bend the rod back to straight. Problem solved. Happy grilling.

Yea of all the kettles I’ve owned this has happened to me at least twice. Easy solution is put your hand down on the wipers to hold them solid against the bowl. Grab the sweep lever and pull it toward “open” a lil bit. Once you feel it bend a little let go of the wipers, check or how they close and repeat as necessary. That’s the fastest, and easiest solution. Oooorrrr you could wait for a replacement ash sweep kit from weber like I did one time…… and then jus not install it cause this was easier and now you have backup parts for the future.
